For the past few days, there has been conversations about Ellen DeGeneres hanging out with former President Bush. People find it odd she's hanging with a republican who doesn't have the same beliefs as her. Therefore, on her show she addressed it and she posted it on twitter. This morning, actress Reese Witherspoon agreed with Degeneres on twitter but she deleted her comment so, now people are speculating why she decided to delete it.
Both of these stories are related to politics...how do you think politics have changed over the years?

The social responsibility theory is about providing news for the public through media controlling. Having said that, 28 year old Dallas woman Atatiana Jefferson was shot and killed by a police officer while visiting her nephew. This type of news would definitely get people talking because it is something that happens so often. Sadly, this is the type of advertising that people like to see.
Magazines and Modern Society is another topic that Ralph Hansen includes and it is about how magazines are not as popular as they used to be but they are still relevant. The musical genius and fashion icon Pharrell Williams is the cover of GQ magazine. In this cover he expresses the new masculinity, his culture, and identity.

Television news goes 24/7 but in the morning is usually when they try to bring the most interesting people to have the public tuned in. Cynthia Brown, who at the age of 16 was convicted of murder of Johnny Michael Allen said that Allen paid to have sex with him and she was scared so she shot and killed him. 15 years later she has been released and is on NBC News as her first interview as a free woman to discuss her experiences and new growth.
Gina Rodriguez, leading role star in Jane The Virgin was recording herself singing a song saying the 'N-word.' Today, she issued a statement of apology for offending the African American community. Hansen discusses Online Media and how it has increased over the years and how damaging it could be.

As stated by Hansen, a publicity model gets information covered by them daily whether it's good or bad. Usually there is negative things said about the person but they try to turn the information around. With that being said, Wendy Williams received a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. Everybody knows Wendy Williams is one of the most talked about people in the industry. With all of the things people have spoke about her, she turns this around to a positive.
In Living in a Media World by Hansen, he includes how important PR's are and having celebrities form a bond with companies are essential. Therefore, Michael Jordan has teamed up with a a clinic in Charlotte for patients with no health insurance. While doing this it is of course helping the people but definitely making Michael Jordan look good.

Ralph Hansen mentions how we share our lives online and the rep ructions of it and that's what Kylie did and now it has turned into a business arrangement.

Hansen mentions how the Instagram has changed the game for pictures and 'selfies.' There has been many changes over the years with adding different things such as videos and filters. There is a new filter that has been floating around that has gotten very popular that makes people look like they got plastic surgery. However, Instagram has said they will take it down since it is mimicking people.
An incident happened in New Jersey where two people fell off a cliff while on a hike wearing their apple watches. The watches detected the fall and automatically dialed 911. Having said that, there is a section dedicated to apple reinventing the media and this is a perfect example! Over the years apple has constantly created things to change the media world. Automatically dialing 911 is amazing and super helpful for accidents like this!

There is a section when Hansen discusses the blending of black and white musical traditions. Throughout the section he states how people in the industry would blend different genres of music. This made me think of hip hop rapper, Kanye West because today he dropped an album called "Jesus is King." This album is supposed to showcase his new gospel music and reveal the new person he is spiritually. However, I heard the album and it still has a hip-hop feel to it so it shows how he has blended the two genres together.
As we all know, Johnson & Johnson is a popular baby brand that has shampoos, soaps, lotion, powder, etc. This used to be the brand that everyone loved but now there is so many speculations going on about it. People are saying their babies aren't doing well from it and there has asbestos findings in the baby powder. Therefore, it is now being removed from stores such as CVS, Walmart, and Rite Aid. Having said that, Hansen mentions top selling brands in the United States and Johnson & Johnson are in that category! They did have one of the best advertising businesses but it will be decreasing soon.

Hansen has included several things about the media including Facebook. The owner, Mark Zuckerberg, wants to partner with media to promote journalism. This is apart of strategic communication and the power of relationships through public relations.
There is a section on advertising-supported media that talks about how media helps advertise certain businesses or products. With that being said, Popeyes announced that they are bringing back the infamous chicken sandwich! However, they way they marketed it was a sign with chick fil a on the left saying 'closed sunday' and Popeyes on the right saying 'open sunday' this is the type of advertising that gets people to talk and gets Popeyes more money!

As we all know, apple always has new updates on the products they make. This update includes an upgrade in the emojis we use. There is now gender neutral emojis for the lgbtq community to use. This is another example of how Hansen mentioned that apple is taking over the media world. Lgbtq is a huge community that is taking over and this is something people will talk about.
Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter announced through a tweet that twitter will be halting all political advertisements across the social media platform. Twitter is a popular app that is apart of the new generation online media. As the mass communication text mentions, twitter is used to keep up with things going on in the world, especially politics. Therefore, it could be a problem for the people who use it for political reasons.

Bella Thorne posted a selfie of her makeup for Halloween but it was a disturbing photo. The makeup she had symbolized bruises and scars which had people thinking if she went through this. She was glamorizing this look and it made people not have good things to say.
Hansen talks about the growth of brand names and how advertisement is the main cause of businesses being successful. However, when there is an issue with the business it becomes hard to revive it. With that being said, Nestle Toll House cookie dough has been recalled for people complaining of rubber pieces being in the product. Since there has been people complaining of this issue it will be hard to get people to use that brand to bake their cookies.

Through the use of mass communication which is a society wide communication process in which an individual or institution uses technology to send messages to a large, mixed audience. The CEO of airbnb, Brian Chesky, announced on twitter that any house parties are banned because of a shooting that happened in California and left a number of people dead.
Rodney Reed is an innocent inmate who is scheduled to be executed in Texas. With the help of social media, Shaun King, posted the story on his social media to get everyones attention to click the link in his bio to sign a petition to end it. This goes well with Hansen's explanation on how Instagram has changed over the years and because of the change it can have a huge impact on someones life.

There has been plenty of controversies over the new 'Harriet' movie. People (African Americans) are not a fan of the leading lady in the film. Hansen has a section on the amazing film 'Black Panther' and mentions all the work and time that went into that film with all black workers. The difference between these two are that people are tired of the same slavery stories, it becomes too depressing. With black panther it was a different storyline and something exciting to watch.
Being in the black community, we suffer from so much negativity from other races
How have you experienced trauma from other races?
The Academy disqualified Nigeria's first submission for best international feature because the movie was in English. Hansen talks about Twitter being new outlet that people would use to express themselves. With that being said, Ava DuVernay used this situation to called out The Academy and let them know how wrong they were for taking away a nomination.

T.I. sat down with ladies from ladieslikeuspodcast.and in their conversation he mentioned going to the gynecologist with his daughter, Deyjah Harris to make sure she is still a virgin.

A few days ago I talked about Rodney Reed being executed for a crime he didn't commit. With the help of instagram over 2 million people signed a petition and he will no longer be executed!

A couple months ago, instagram announced that they would not allow the public to view other peoples likes on their photos. They will start to test it out next week. Instagram is trying to become a safer network and as we know in this generation people are dedicated to getting thousands of likes.
The infamous Kobe Bryant wants to be known as a storyteller! He has helped create books, podcasts, and films with a production company. This ties to Hansen's public relations because of the connections Kobe has he is able to do these things.
